Seemi Pasha is a broadcast journalist and news presenter with close to 20 years of work experience. She has spent a large part of her career working with national news channels like Network 18 and India Today Television, covering politics, gender, and society. She has been working independently as a filmmaker and journalist since 2019.
Seemi’s articles and news-documentaries are frequently published by Indian news websites like The Wire and The Quint. Her essays on the movement against the Citizenship Amendment Act have been published in a book called ‘Shaheen Bagh And The Idea of India’, published by Speaking Tiger.
Seemi started her career with CNN-IBN, Network 18, in 2005. She was one of the faces of the channel’s premier morning show called, ‘Breakfast with India’. She worked with many teams in the channel including ‘city news’, ‘news features’ and the ‘political desk’. She joined India Today Television in 2013. In the run-up to the 2014 Parliamentary elections, Seemi travelled and reported from across India as part of the channel’s ‘Election Express’. She was on the road for 45 days, landing up in a new city every morning and filing news stories every night. She left India Today TV to lead the newsroom at Tiranga TV in 2018. She has been working as an independent journalist and filmmaker since December 2019.
Seemi is a recipient of the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award, presented by the Indian Express Group. She received the award in the category of ‘Government and Politics’ in 2023 for a documentary called, ‘Inside Jamia Nagar: A Story of Everyday Prejudice Against Indian Muslims’. The documentary was broadcast in 2019 on The Wire. She was also awarded the prestigious Red Ink Award by the Mumbai Press Club in 2016. She won the award in the category of ‘Politics’ for a documentary titled ‘Young and Restless in Bihar. Seemi bagged the News Television Award in 2011 for a series of investigative reports on the Medical Council scam. The stories exposed how the Medical Council of India was granting recognition to private medical colleges that had little or no infrastructure and aiding medical colleges in selling medical seats.
An alumnus of Convent of Jesus & Mary, Seemi has a graduate degree in English literature from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University, and a master’s degree in mass communication from AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia.
